Leioa Waterpolo is a young club, with only 24 years of history, but it has gradually grown up until becoming one of the references in Basque water polo.
It currently has more of 170 players forming a total of 18 teams, 4 of which are absolute: two feminine and two masculine.
The women's first squad faces in this 2023/24 campaign its 14th participation in Spanish League, after playing in 1st Division in 2009/10 and from 2011/12 to 2019/20, and in Division of Honor in 2020/21, returning to the silver category in 2021/22.
On the other hand, the men's team takes part in 1st Division of Basque Country's League, facing its 17th participation, after proclaiming champion of Basque Country's Cup in 2014/15 and third classified in 2013/14 and 2014/15 League seasons. The second women's team plays in 1st Division of Basque Country's League, after achieving League and Cup championships in 2013/14 and 2014/15 terms, and the second men's team makes its debut in 2nd Division of Basque Country's League in this season.
Furthermore, Leioa Waterpolo has always supported its reserve. Nowadays our club has 14 teams in lower categories: male and female under-18, male, female and mixed under-16, and mixed 'A', mixed 'B' and female under-14, all of which play in Basque Country's Leagues and regularly compete in Spain's Championships, where the club currently gathers 33 participations among all categories; and also three mixed under-12 and three mixed under-10 teams, which play in Bizkaia's Leagues and use to take part in some tournaments during the season. This teams are result of the club's reserve, because it has a Water Polo Academy with more of 125 children from 6 to 16 years whose aim is to train future players.
Leioa Waterpolo does its trainings and plays its matches in Sakoneta swimming pool, in the center of Leioa. Its ancient and nice facilities are well-known by the vibrant atmosphere that prevails during the matches, thanks to some of the loudest and most committed supporters of Basque water polo. Moreover, the women's first team plays Spanish League games in Askartza pool, also in Leioa.
