Leioa Waterpolo is a young club, with only 22 years of history, but it has gradually grown up until becoming one of the references in Basque water polo.
It currently has more of 180 players forming a total of 17 teams, 3 of which are absolute: two of them feminine and the other one masculine.
The women's first squad faces this 2021/22 campaign its 12th participation in Spanish League, after playing in 1st Division in 2009/10 and from 2011/12 to 2019/20, and in Division of Honor in 2020/21, returning to the silver category in this season again.
On the other hand, the men's team takes part in 1st Division of Basque Country's League, facing its 15th participation, after proclaiming champion of Basque Country's Cup in 2014/15 and third classified in 2013/14 and 2014/15 League seasons. The second feminine team plays in 1st Division of Basque Country's League, after achieving League and Cup championships in 2013/14 and 2014/15 terms.
Furthermore, Leioa Waterpolo has always supported its reserve. Nowadays our club has 14 teams in lower categories: male and female under-18, male and female under-16, and mixed 'A', mixed 'B', mixed 'C' and female under-14, all of which play in Basque Country's Leagues and regularly compete in Spain's Championships, where the club currently gathers 27 participations among all categories; and also three mixed under-12 and three mixed under-10 teams, which play in Bizkaia's Leagues and use to take part in some tournaments during the season. This teams are result of the club's reserve, because it has a Water Polo Academy with more of 130 children whose aim is to train future players.
Children from six to eight have their place in Leioa Waterpolo club too, as they are the main stars in the mini-water polo training sessions. There, they play games in the pool, acquiring aquatic skills and working their psychomotricity.
Leioa Waterpolo does its trainings and plays its matches in Sakoneta swimming pool, in the center of Leioa. Its ancient and nice facilities are well-known by the vibrant atmosphere that prevails during the matches, thanks to some of the loudest and most committed supporters of Basque water polo. Moreover, the women's first team plays Spanish League games in Askartza pool, also in Leioa.
